Before the Conference

Registration

• How do I register for Farbindungen?

  • Register to attend the 2024 conference here.

• Who can register for Farbindungen?

  • Registration for Farbindungen is open to anyone who is interested, including students, faculty, administrators, independent scholars, and community members. 

• I want to attend a workshop. How do I register?

  • Workshops do not require separate registration for Farbindungen 2024. Links to workshop panels will be shared with all conference registrants.

• Why do I need to register?

  • We are requiring registration for security purposes. Please do not share video-conference links with anyone else, but encourage them to register for themselves.

Conference Logistics

• Is Farbindungen in-person, virtual, or hybrid?

  • Farbindungen 2024 is completely virtual. All sessions, including workshops and the keynote session will be held virtually via Zoom. Register at the link above for more information.

• When will I get the Zoom links?

  • We will email out the Zoom links 24 hours before the conference. Please check your spam filter, promotions filter, etc. If you have not received the email with the links, please email farbindungen[at]gmail[dot]com.

• Will Farbindungen be recorded?

  • While some presentations will be recorded, not all recordings will necessarily be made available publicly. If you are interested in a particular session, please join us at the conference. Registration is free and open to everyone.
    
    

Accessibility

• Will sessions be live-captioned?

  • The public-facing keynote panel will feature live captioning. Paper panels and interactive workshops will be live captioned per participant request. The deadline for requesting live captioning is February 5, 2024, so that we can ensure coverage on all the panels you'd like to attend.

• How can I request accommodations?

  • We recognize that participants may require accommodation to make the conference experience accessible. Please note your requests on the registration form or get in touch with us on farbindungen[at]gmail[dot]com.
    
    Some of our universal accessibility initiatives include: alt-text on posted images; text and image design contrast; limited video recordings with edited captions; a virtual conference format; multiple learning modalities; and a practice of glossing vocabulary. Please note that the public-facing keynote panel will feature pre-programmed captioning for the two speakers' prepared remarks.

During the Conference

• My Zoom link isn’t working. What should I do?

  • Please email farbindungen[at]gmail[dot]com. This inbox will be closely monitored during the conference and we will help you as quickly as we can. Please note that DMs on our social media platforms will not be monitored during the conference. Please contact us by email.

• I am attending a panel, and there is a problem with the sound or video. What should I do?

  • Please send a comment directly to a “host” or “co-host” in the Zoom chat box. 

• I want to attend a different workshop than the one I signed up for. What should I do?

  • All requests to change workshop registration should be sent to farbindungen[at]gmail[dot]com.

After the Conference

• How can I support Farbindungen?

  • There are many ways to support Farbindungen:

    • Offer mentorship as a faculty or professional advisor.

    • Sign up to receive email updates here and follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Mastodon and Facebook.

    • Though we are currently unable to accept donations, we will have more details about contributing to our general fund soon.

• How can I get involved in Farbindungen?

  • Our conferences are open to all to attend. Submissions of papers and/or workshops are welcome from advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and early career professionals including individuals outside academia. We are always looking to connect with scholars, faculty, and professionals working in Yiddish Studies and related fields.

• How can I apply to present at Farbindungen?

  • Applications for Farbindungen 2025 will open in the fall of 2024.

• I am interested in serving on the organizing committee for Farbindungen 2025. Who do I contact? 

  • We welcome undergraduates, graduate students, and early career professionals interested in Yiddish Studies to join the organizing committee. All committee members serve on a volunteer basis. Please email farbindungen[at]gmail[dot]com to express your interest in joining the committee. Interested volunteers will be invited to an information meeting shortly after Farbindungen 2024.
